Over the years FVA has been involved with a multitude of projects and events. Check out what we've been up to over the past few years.

Lots o' Leafleting: There is weekly Vegan Outreach leafleting. Contact us to join in! When 2 out-of-town Vegan Outreach activists were in town in January, two FVA volunteers joined them for 3 solid days of leafleting area colleges. On one day at UCF, the 4 of them handed out over 7,000 leaflets to students!

Dec. 2009: "ADOPT! DON'T BUY" demo at Petland to educate people about puppy mills and how pet stores add to the pet overpopulation crisis.

************

Nov. 27, 2009: FUR FREE FRIDAY demo at Westshore Mall, speaking up for the animals killed for fur coats and fur-trimmed garments. Fur Free Friday is a nationwide protest which occurs annually across the U.S. on the day after Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving 2009: Over 300 people celebrated together at our 4th annual "ThanksVegan" Feast in Tampa. Fabulous food and friends!

Nov. 2009: FVA had an educational table at the Pet Expo (Adopt-a-thon) at the State Fairgrounds, where many area shelters and rescue groups came together to find homes for hundreds of dogs and cats. We provided information to the public on a variety of animals issues.

April 2009: Florida Voices for Animals and Farm Sanctuary spoke with WMNF regarding the swine flu pandemic and the origin at factory farms.  Listen to 4/30/2009 here.

April 2009: For Earth Week, Nikki spoke to 6 high school classes in Tampa on the animal cruelty and environmental destruction of factory farms.  Was a huge success!  Check out the pictures here.

On the very same day, Lana handed out approximately 1,000 leaflets at USF in Tampa in honor of World Week for Animals in Laboratories. Later in the day, she also spoke to students at an on-campus screening of the film Earthlings.

April 2009: Our KFC Demo in St. Pete made WMNF's nightly news! Listen here.  Pictures here.

FVA was invited to promote civic engagement on WUSF TV's Florida Matters program!  Great coverage for garnering support - watch it here!

2008: Ringling Brothers Circus Demos at the St. Pete Times Forum. One young couple attending the circus realized the cruelty (we reminded them on the way in), left half way through the show, and joined our demonstration the next day!  Check out our pictures here.

2008: With the help of In Defense of Animals, PETA and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, FVA and their hard working volunteers organized a VERY successful "Adopt! Don't Buy" demo at a Petland in Wesley Chapel!  Numerous customers were educated on the horrors of pet stores and puppy mills.  Many shoppers left to find a companion from their local shelter instead!  We even made the evening news on Channel 8!  Check out our pictures here.

In September 2008, thanks to the diligence of FVA's own John Moyer and a team of phone-callers and letter-writers, Bruegger's nationwide bagel franchiser promises to phase out the use of eggs from battery caged hens:  "Bruegger's is committed to switch all of our locations in Florida within the next few years.  Bruegger's takes this issue very seriously and believes in the humane treatment of all animals."

Nikki put in a plug for plant-based diets at an Obama rally in August 2008 - view the clip here.

In March of 2008, Tampa Bay became the fifth Florida city to pass a Battery Cage resolution.  This was just on the heels of New Port Richey's August 2007 resolution.  Thanks to everyone who has helped Florida be a forerunner by publicly opposing battery cages.
